The 11 temptations of La La Land
It is the city of botox injections and indoor sunglasses, but it is also the city of opportunities, outdoor gyms, Mondays to enjoy the sun and homemade doughnuts brunch where photos are forbidden.
These are the eleven temptations of Los Angeles. We’ll forgive you if you fall into all of them.
Staying at the Four Seasons of Beverly Hills (300 South Doheny Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90048). Because of its bed with six feather pillows, its marble bathroom, suitable for aligning all your beauty products on its countertop, and the breathtaking views of the city.
Eating a mozzarella sandwich with french fries (lots of them!) at Zinqué restaurant (8684 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90048). You’ll share a table with girls who make it look like they’re eating in a tracksuit -but not just any tracksuit- behind their Mac screen. You’ll come across a bunch of paparazzi chasing Justin Bieber’s girlfriend. It happened to me.
Buying yourself a top and tights with the legendary palm tree print of the Beverly Hills Hotel (9641 Sunset Blvd, Beverly Hills, CA 90210). The perfect excuse to go more often to the gym.
Watching a basketball game at the Staples Center. Dear compatriots, let’s see if we can learn how to organize a sports competition with “scream meter”, sushi, loud music and wedding proposals included.
Eating spaghetti with lobster once more at The Ivy (113 N Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA), the coolest “country cabin” in Los Angeles.
Drinking one, two or more Pink Gin Fizz at the brunch of The Beverly Hills Hotel. Remember to order the truffled Benedict eggs as a side dish.
Sneaking a picture of the Tower Bar staff (8358 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069). You go back to the Hollywood from the 30s and 40s, Martini in hand.
Buying yourself a skull -one of those that Frida Kahlo would have liked so much- in Venice Beach; and watching the Muscle Beach Venice, an outdoor gym where you’ll see real men of steel.
Tasting the delicious apple pie from the legendary Chateau Marmont (8221 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046). Its walls have seen Sofia Coppola directing, Annie Leibovitz shooting her camera and Helmut Newton crashing his car into the hotel’s façade… among other endless worldwide known secrets.
Buying yourself an eyeliner at Glossier. Remember: the thicker and darker they are, the better.
